1. TAKE AFTER SOMEBODY-

Meaning: Look or behave in a similar way to someone (usually a family member)

Example: "You really TAKE AFTER your dad, you've got the same eyes"

2. TAKE UP SOMETHING-

Meaning: Start a new hobby

Example: "I TOOK UP karate when I was 11 years old"

3. TAKE TO SOMETHING-

Meaning: Start liking an activity

Example: "I hated playing the piano at first, but I TOOK TO it after a while"

4. TAKE OVER SOMETHING-

Meaning: Take control of / take responsibility for

Example: "Laura TOOK OVER from Phil as head of department last year"

5. TAKE SOMEBODY ASIDE-

Meaning: Move away from people to talk

Example: "His behaviour was unacceptable, so I TOOK him ASIDE and gave him a warning"

6.TAKE SOMETHING IN-

Meaning: Believe or accept something is true

Example: "She won 10 million on the lottery, she just couldn't TAKE it IN at first"

7.TAKE OFF-

Meaning: Suddenly become successful

Example: "His acting career really TOOK OFF after he played Spiderman"

8.TAKE SOMEBODY ON-

Meaning: Give someone a job

Example: "They were all great candidates but we can only TAKE ON one person"
